Monstrosity in a Ballet Adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein*

The article focuses on the analysis of 2016 ballet adaptation Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein created by Liam Scarlett for Royal Opera House and San Francisco Ballet. purpose is to show that this production presents novel’s motif monstrosity as queer desire prevailing societal conventions. paper divided into theoretical sections. first one provides a brief overview approaching novel its chosen cinematic adaptations through studies. second section narrative developed over course adaptation. It also discusses formal devices, such as: choreography, costumes, characterisation, stage design, theatrical properties, which together reinforce allow proposed interpretation monstrosity.
